With the ability to allow players to rent servers for BF3 now available, I was curious if anyone here has done so, and if you have, how do you like that feature.

What exactly can you do with your own servers that you can not with the "Standard" (for lack of better words) servers offered to everyone?

I have one. So far, I like it.

You get Full control over the settings.

Name the server, give the server description, and the text displayed at the start of the round.
Full Map rotation/mode control.
Control over various things like % of tickets, kill cam, 3'd person view's in vehicles, # of players needed to start, ect...
The option of adding Admin's, VIP's, and or banning people from your server.
You can upload a custom banner for everyone to see.
And the options, of Ranked, non-ranked, and Private server.
There is more, I just cant remember all of it, to list.

I haven't been able to test from a non-owner account, but at least the owner can free roam the map. So if you need training for flying, you can now freely fly into whatever you want without interruption. lol.

I'll have to play on your server sometime then How much does it cost? Is it worth it?

I could care less about rented servers. I don't ever see myself renting a server.....why would I pay money to play a game I could play for free? If I don't like some of the options then I might as well play another game mode! Some people may like it, but I am pretty neutral about it, although I wish it was easier just to play the normal DICE servers.

Some people have Large Platoons, so it's quite useful for that type of stuff. I have alot of PSN friends that play all the time. And we love to mess around. So having the ability to play in private is huge. With V1.04 we are able to schedule matches now, so that goes with the whole platoon and private server setup. Also, some people just have the $ to spend on a game they enjoy, just cause. LoL And on top of all of it, this brings us so much closer to par with the PC version. We now only lack in graphics and mods. Functionality is now equal.

I wish it was easier just to play the normal DICE servers.

Server Browser - Filters - Uncheck custom servers. Then Search for DICE. Should be nothing but D.I.C.E. servers.

Mind if I add you? I would like to play on a server that someone i know owns Id be happy to play around on it, even if im just alone or with a couple friends

Also I was gonna rent a server for the PSNP playnight, but if you have one, we dont need it

Also, ever think of using your server to help get yourself the ribbons and B2K guns?

This would be quite possible. Personally, I don't need any more. And no, sorry, it's still Team/Squad/Off.

There really are no new options. We now have access to alter them. All but a few of the settings can be seen from a servers Info Screen.

It's on par with PC servers rent/lease cost's. It's actually cheaper than some of the PC host's.

That would be cool, but nope. In fact I think Ill edit my first post to list all my settings and the map rotation for the current preset. Then everyone can see what's what.

Yeah, A12....it's cool" lol Anyway, I agree with Wade, you gave a ton of awesome responses. Also, I figured out how to manually get on to only DICE servers. I prefer DICE's as random ones annoy me for some reason. Also did anyone notice a new tournamentesque feature in the MP menu? I wonder what it is.

VIP puts you in top spots for queues. Not much else.

Yes, but you are also comparing a PC game to a PS3 game. It is no secret that PC gaming is much more advanced than consoles. Let's see if the upcoming Counter Strike for PS3 offers the same server service for PS3 gamers as it will for PC gamers.
Betcha' it won't.

Which is why I asked this question in regards to BF3 and not how it compares to other platforms.
