Apple CEO Tim Cook recently shot down earlier talk that the company is interested in a foray into the home console business.
Speaking to reporters at the D10 conference, Cook said, "I'm not interested in being in the console business in what is thought of as traditional gaming. But Apple is a big player today, and things in the future will only make that bigger."
This spring, it was rumored that Apple would release its own home console this year, and there was also a report that Cook visited Valve possibly related to a console partnership. Valve denied that the visit occurred.
Of course, Apple is already involved in gaming via the iOS platform, and if you want to split hairs, you could scrutinize Cook's use of the word "traditional" if you want to speculate further.

Apple says that they aren't interested in "traditional" consoles... whatever that means... maybe a hand held or a "gaming" version of the iPad or something... but one thing we know for sure is that it will be an overpriced piece of hardware with one button, can't multitask, and still wont support flash... BAZING!

Looks like they learned their mistakes from the Pippin.
The Pippin was pretty gangsta, man.

An Apple console would suck, it would look like a bigger AppleTV, cost twice what it costs to make and be full of "apps".
And the so called best "game" for it would barely be a game at all (seriously, why does Infinity Blade get so much praise? It's repetitive crap with no strategy involved at all. dodge dodge attack, dodge dodge attack, die and start game over, repeat until you get sick of it (which takes about 15 minutes) and delete the stupid app). No thanks.

Shows how much I know. I thought their most popular game was that dumb Angry Birds. I still don't understand what the hell you're supposed to do in that thing.

I didn't say their most popular game, I said their best game. I was looking at the reviews for Infinity Blade on the app store after "playing" it for a little while and thought it was complete shit. What I found floored me. People were praising it as if it were on par with the best that gaming has had to offer during its entire lifespan. Reviews talking about how deep the combat is and nonsense like that. Maybe it's deep if all you've played before is Bejeweled, Angry Birds, and Cut the Rope, but if you've been playing all manner of excellent games for years, you will quickly find Infinity Blade to be boring, repetitive crap with less depth to its combat system than a rain puddle. This is what people are calling the best game on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. And if that's really the best that Apple has to offer for people like me to play, then it's just further reason for me not to take Apple seriously in the gaming space.Shows how much I know. I thought their most popular game was that dumb Angry Birds. I still don't understand what the hell you're supposed to do in that thing.
