Roadmap

Stage 1: Play The Game

There really is no step-by-step way of getting all the trophies since your role in the game will vary each round meaning you will get the trophies in a random order. This game is really fun and it tests how good you are at deceiving and convincing others of what you may or may not be. So simply enjoy the game and as you play each role a couple times it will become a lot easier for you. One cool thing about this game is that it is cross-platform meaning you can play with people on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, though you may toggle this on or off in settings.

Tips & Strategies

This game has many different roles which alternate between players each round (though you may have the same role for many rounds in a row), some even have their own special abilities to help aid in the search for the Werewolf.

Brief descriptions of each role:

Villager - Team Townsfolk

The villager does not have any special abilities and it is okay to reveal your role. The one thing a villager can do is appoint a ringleader but all villagers must agree on who to pick for the nomination to go through. Ringleader votes count as double when choosing who to eliminate. If you are a villager in a round you should try and figure out who you can trust the most to give the powerful ringleader appointment to. Many times the villager(s) stays quiet because they feel they cannot contribute to the discussion. This is dangerous as it can cause suspicion to be placed on them which may even lead to them being eliminated, causing the Townsfolk to lose in many cases. The Villager wins if Team Townsfolk wins by successfully eliminating at least one Werewolf.

Werewolf - Team Werewolf

A Werewolf can see who the other Werewolves are in a match (if there are any others). The Werewolf should not reveal their role and instead assume a fake identity. They can scent people next to them to discover their roles. The Werewolves may have a Turncloak on their team but they will not know who it is unless they scent them (or figure it out by how the player is playing). A Werewolf would win by not getting eliminated.

Deviant - Team Deviant
The Deviant is a team of their own whose only goal is to get themselves eliminated. They have no special abilities so they must draw suspicion to themselves by making it seem like they may be a Werewolf. So long as the Deviant gets eliminated it will not matter who else was eliminated because the Deviant will always win when eliminated. The Deviant should keep their true identity a secret.

Turncloak - Team Werewolf
The Turncloak knows who the Werewolves are and must help them win by either drawing suspicion to themselves (the Werewolves will win if the Turncloak is eliminated) or helping the Werewolves accuse someone else. A Turncloak should not reveal their role unless they are whispering with a Werewolf.

Watcher - Team Townsfolk
A Watcher has the ability to stare at another player and learn 2 possible identities of that player. One of these will be true and the other is false. The Watcher should share their clues with the group to try and help figure out who may be lying or telling the truth. The Watcher should wait to use their ability on someone who is being suspicious. Their ability, as with all other abilities is activated from the player's book.

Tracker - Team Townsfolk
The Tracker can use their ability to listen to either side of the group and determine if there are Wervoles on the side they listened to. If there is a Werewolf on the side the Tracker listened to the players on that half of the group will have all have Werewolf symbol with a question mark in it, this doesn't necessarily mean that all of those players are Werewolves though. If there are no Werewolves on the side the Tracker listens to those players will have a Werewolf symbol with a X in it, effectively ruling out half the group. Only the Tracker can see these symbols but they should share their knowledge with the group.

Gossip - Team Townsfolk
The Gossip will learn the possible roles of two players over time, one will be true and the other may also be true or it may be false. The first clue pops up at the beginning of the round and the second shows up about halfway through. The Gossip should share their clues with the group and use them to corroborate another player's story.

Astrologer - Team Townsfolk
The Astrologer can gaze at the stars to learn one role that is definitely in play in a round. They can use their clue to confirm someone is telling the truth and should always share their information with the group. If the clue says there is a Saint present you should not mention that as it helps the Werewolves, instead say something else like a Villager is present.

Drifter - Team Townsfolk
The Drifter learns of two roles that are not in play in a round. This is perfect for calling out people who are lying if they claim to be one of the roles you know are not present. To use this role effectively you should announce you are the Drifter but not say what your clues are until everyone else has said what they are.

Houndsman - Team Townsfolk
The Houndsman can scent adjacent players' roles and can share their knowledge of what those roles are to confirm someone as truthful or dishonest. A lot of times though people don't believe the Houndsman since Werewolves often claim this role.

Saint - Team Townsfolk

The Saint must pray by looking down for a few seconds to learn the identity of a Werewolf. Thankfully most of the time the whole group will do this simultaneously to try and help protect the Saint should there be one present. The Saint must then try to get the Townsfolk to vote to eliminate that Werewolf wilthout exposing themselves. This role should be kept a secret and a Saint should be cautious not to whisper with someone who may be a Werewolf. If the Saint is discovered and eliminated by the Werewolves the Townsfolk will lose.

Win Conditions Hierarchy System:

  1. If the Deviant is eliminated, the Deviant wins (this condition overrules all others).
  2. The Werewolves win if the Saint is eliminated or if all Werewolves vote for the Saint.
  3. If a Werewolf is eliminated the Townsfolk win.
  4. If just Townsfolk are eliminated, the Werewolves win.

As a Werewolf, successfully eliminate the Saint

In order for the Werewolves to successfully eliminate the Saint, all Werewolves in the round will need to vote to eliminate them (though the Saint may also be eliminated if the majority of non-Werewolves vote to eliminate the Saint). First though, they will have to try and figure out who that may be. One way for the Saint to be figured out is if a Werewolf is sitting next to one and sniffs them. A good way to get someone to let you sniff them is to pretend you are a Houndsman. If you are a Werewolf and able to do this all you have to do is say they are the Saint and have your fellow Werewolves vote to eliminate them. Even though you will give away your identity by doing this it will not matter since you will win if all Werewolves vote for the Saint regardless of if a Werewolf gets eliminated. Another way to spot the Saint is to take note on if somebody is bowing their head (which the Saint does to use their ability), though often times the whole group will bow their heads to try and conceal the Saint's identity (if there even is one) but someone may get careless and do it alone. The Saint may also make themselves obvious by constantly accusing the same person. Let's say you are a Werewolf and someone is only accusing you and is very adament about it, even going so far as to constantly ping you for suspicion, chances are they are a very bad Saint.

The Werewolf's scent ability is automatically used when you lean over to whisper with someone who also leans towards you. Once you enter whisper mode with another player as a Werewolf you will see a moon icon start to fill at the bottom of the screen. Once this moon is filled the role of the person you are whispering with will be revealed meaning the scent ability has been used successfully.

Team Werewolf includes the roles Werewolf and Turncloak, but for this trophy you will have to win while playing as a Werewolf.

To win as a Werewolf you will either need to eliminate the Saint or have anyone else besides another Werewolf (or Deviant) be eliminated. You can also win by diverting attention towards the Turncloak, if the Turncloak is eliminated the Werewolves will still win.

As a Werewolf you will need to convince the Villagers that you are being honest so that they appoint you Ringleader. A good example of how you can get them to vote for you is if you have them believing you are a "Watcher" and a real Gossip says that is one of their clues and that you may be telling the truth. Basically just be very convincing at the role you are pretending to be ( it helps if you understand very well how each role works). If you can get into a situation somewhat like that you may just get everyone to believe you are trustworthy enough to be appointed ringleader. If you are appointed Ringleader as a Werewolf and your team loses you will still get the trophy.

In order to successfully eliminate a Werewolf Team Townsfolk must work together using their abilities and deduction skills to figure out who is a Werewolf.

First off in order to be on a Townsfolk team you must be one of the following:

  • Villager
  • Tracker
  • Watcher
  • Gossip
  • Astrologer
  • Drifter
  • Houndsman
  • Saint

The only way to win as Townsfolk is by eliminating at least on Werewolf in a round (although they would lose if a Saint or Deviant gets eliminated even if a Werewolf was eliminated too). Pretty much all of the Townsfolk's abilities can compliment each other and make it easy to discover who the Werewolf is. For example if there is a Watcher and a Gossip and the Gossip says that their clue is that Person X may be a Werewolf the Watcher can then use their ability on that person to confirm or deny any suspicions. Let's say in this case the Watcher determines that Person X is either a Werewolf or Gossip. The Gossip clue would be false since someone else has the Gossip role meaning the Werewolf clue is most likely true. Having confirmed that Person X is a Werewolf all Team Townsfolk would have to do is vote to eliminate them. So long as the Saint nor Deviant get eliminated Team Townsfolk would win in this situation. Another example of how to figure out who the Werewolf is would be if Person W claimed to be a Tracker but someone else who says they are a Drifter says they have concluded that there is not a Tracker present. If the Drifter can get confirmed it would mean Person W is lying and could be a possible Werewolf (though be careful because the Deviant would also lie like this to draw suspicion). If Person W is in fact a Werewolf and is the only one eliminated Team Townsfolk would be victorious.

In order to become Ringleader as a Townsfolk you will have to prove to the group that you are trustworthy. The best way to gain the group's trust is if you are playing as one of the roles with abilities (Watcher, Gossip, etc.) and the clues that you present the group with match up with other clues. If your story adds up the Villagers will know you are not a Werewolf and will therefore be more likely to appoint you Ringleader.

Freak Elite
As Deviant, win a game
23.99%
Uncommon

The Deviant is on a team with just themselves. To win all they have to do is be eliminated. The Deviant being eliminated will overrule all other win conditions. Meaning that if the Deviant and a Werewolf are both eliminated everyone loses except for the Deviant. In order to win as Deviant you will have to raise enough suspicion on yourself without being too obvious. Claim to be a role that someone else has claimed or even pick one that isn't in the round (you can see which roles may be present by looking in your book). Such as if you see there is no Watcher in the round say that's your role and someone will probably call you out and say something like "Hey wait a second, the book says there isn't a Watcher so you are lying." If you can paint yourself as being dishonest enough to where people think you are a Werewolf then you should be able to be eliminated and win. Another tactic the Deviant often uses is to stay quiet the whole round which will cause people to wonder why you are not saying anything to where they may think you are a Werewolf.

This is the hardest trophy since you will have to be the Deviant and have ALL players vote to eliminate you. You will need to convince the Townsfolk that you are a "Werewolf" and get the Werewolves thinking that you are someone on Team Townsfolk. The Werewolves will usually jump in with the Townsfolk when someone is wrongly being accused to draw attention away from themselves so use that to your advantage.

As Saint, win the game without getting any votes for yourself

In this game the Saint has the ability to know the identity of one Werewolf and must try to place suspicion on them without giving away their own identity. Often times if the group notices there may be a Saint present everyone will bow their heads and pray for a few seconds. Your goal as Saint is to successfully get the Townsfolk to win by eliminating a Werewolf. For the purpose of this trophy you must not only win, but you must also get not a single post cast on you. To do this you will need to not be figured out by the Werewolves while also not getting any Townsfolk to turn on you. Often times the best strategy for Saint is to claim you are a Villager. Do NOT lean over to someone next to you unless you are 110% sure they are not a Werewolf (although even just whispering with someone may draw suspicion to you sometimes). If you have someone next to you who has been verified to be telling the truth you may talk to them and share your knowledge of who is a Werewolf. Be wary though as not all verifications are truthful, it may just be a clever plot by Team Werewolf to trick everyone. Since you will know who one of the Werewolves are you will need to try and draw suspicion to them without being too obvious, otherwise the Werewolves may catch on to you. If you are successful in helping the Townsfolk figure out who the Werewolf is and did not draw any negative attention to yourself you should be able to win the game without getting any votes for yourself.
